The St. Louis Area’s Pet Stain Removal and Carpet Damage Repair Team

We all love Fido, and we know Fido loves us. But sometimes we don’t love the wear and tear Fido can have on our home. Being animal lovers ourselves, we fully understand the cocktail of emotions pet ownership can put you through. If you’ve come home to a mess thanks to Fido, the Sams team has your back. In this article, we’ll detail the services we offer to help homeowners overcome pet stains and damage.

Pet Urine Stain Removal

Pet urine is tricky because it doesn’t always just affect the surface of your carpet. If a stain is bad enough, it can soak all the way down to your subfloor. We recommend pet owners commit to a regular regimen of carpet cleaning to prevent extensive damage. Our cleaning process utilizes enzymes to destroy odor from minor mishaps on an ongoing basis. If your pet has a favorite spot, we can also inspect the area to determine if there’s been further damage, and how significant it is. We can also help with pet urine stains on your upholstered furniture.

Pet Carpet Damage Repair

You know Fido. Always curious and exploring the world around him with his teeth and claws. Pets can make quite an impact on your carpet. They have an uncanny knack for finding loose strands and turning little problems into great big ones. Sams deploys an entire arsenal of carpet repair strategies for our customers in St. Louis and St. Charles County. We can repair seams that are separating, snags that are inviting a tug, and much more. Even if Fido hasn’t yet found a carpet blemish to exploit, it’s a good idea to get the Sams team involved in repairing it before he does. Call us for a free inspection to determine the best course of action.

Other Pet Stain Removal

Whether it was from an accident, or your pet got into something he shouldn’t have and tracked it all around the house, trying to remove the stains yourself can spread them around or even make them permanent. At Sams, we’ve seen it all, and know what it takes to get the stains out! But the best time to call is right when you discover a stain. With immediate attention, most stains can be removed. If we can’t remove the stain, we can often patch or even dye your carpet so no one will know the difference.

Pet Odor Control

The smell of your home is a product of all the people, animals, and things that are in it. And sometimes Fido creates odors even without having an accident. Pets can leave lingering and unpleasant smells in specific rooms or throughout your home. We can clean your carpets to remove all the odors caused by pets and make them smell fresh again. We also have several odor control solutions to freshen up the air your family breathes.

We know you love Fido, even when he does something to color your vocabulary with words we won’t repeat here. When that happens, we’ve got your back. Call the Sams team to get your carpet and furniture in ship shape in no time.

Avoid Floor Water Damage in Your Facility with these Winter Maintenance Tips

This time of year, our feet can be a real problem for the look and longevity of the floors in your business. With regular foot traffic of customers and employees, it’s easy to not notice we’re tracking in snow, dirt, sand, and salt from outside until it’s too late. And all that extra moisture from the snow ends up on your floors.  You need to be extra cautious to take proper care of your floors and keep up with the cleaning so that winter grime doesn’t affect the life of your carpet.

To help with the winter blues, we’ve put together these three tips for business owners and commercial facility managers to prevent water and contaminant damage to floors this winter:

Tip 1: Use Entry Mats to Prevent Floor Water Damage

Commercial entry mats are an excellent way to trap and absorb moisture and dirt. They put a layer of protection between wet and dirty footwear, and your flooring. It’s important to continuously change and clean the mats as well, to ensure they’re always ready to absorb the next wave of traffic. You could also consider hanging a “Please wipe your shoes” sign as a friendly reminder to guests and staff.

Tip 2: Vacuum More Frequently

With icy sidewalks and parking lots there is a lot of sand and salt put down. Of course, salt and sand prevents slips and falls, but it also ends up tracking into your building which can damage the fibers of the carpet, causing frayed ends and other damage over time. The best solution is to increase frequency of vacuuming to remove the small particles that threaten your floors.

Tip 3: Regular Cleaning for Carpets and Hard Floors

In addition to the slush, sands, and salt that make their way into the building, the moisture of the snow will leave a chalky, white residue behind the floors once the water evaporates.  If left untreated, these white stains can be permanent. Flooring is a significant investment, so take care of it with regular carpet cleaning from Sams Carpet Cleaning & Repairs. Our trained professionals can thoroughly and safely remove that winter mixture residue.

As always, Sams Carpet Cleaning & Repairs can help you with a routine Winter Maintenance to keep your environment safe and fresh, and extend the lifespan of your flooring.

How to Choose a Residential Carpet Cleaning Company in St. Louis

This is the perfect time of year to refresh your home from top to bottom. But where do you start if you are looking for a residential carpet cleaning company in the Saint Louis Metro Area or St. Charles County? Trust and professionalism are important when you are deciding who to work with and let into your home. It is also important to create a clean and germ-free environment for the health and safety of your family and guests.

Flooring is a significant investment for you as a homeowner. Preserving and refreshing it will make your home feel like new. However, longevity is not just an aesthetic priority, but a financial one too. As you research and choose a carpet cleaning company for your household, here are a few things to keep in mind.

Carpet Cleaning Experience Matters

Look for a company with a long-standing history and residential experience when choosing a carpet cleaner. It’s important to select a carpet cleaning company that has a system in place that prioritizes treating your home with the utmost care. Experience also means the company has dealt with a wide variety of spaces and carpet types to ensure that the right techniques are used to effectively clean your carpets without causing damage. Make sure the team you hire is well trained and highly skilled. A professional residential carpet cleaning company will carefully move furniture, apply guards to your corners, inspect for stains and smells that require pre-treatment, and give special attention to high traffic areas that need to be revitalized in the carpet cleaning process.

When Sams’ yellow van shows up to your home to do a job, we utilize our eight-step process, from pre-treating to a final inspection. This assures your carpets are cared for from start to finish, your home is treated with the utmost care, and everything is left in better condition than when we arrived.

The Latest Technology and Equipment

Like any industry, technology and technique are constantly evolving in the carpet cleaning business. So look for a company using the latest technology and practices in the industry for your residential carpet cleaning needs.

The Sams yellow vans are equipped with the latest technology.  We use a powerful, state-of-the-art, truck-mounted steam extraction system to clean deep into the fibers of your carpet. The team also applies a fresh water rinse after cleaning to ensure there is no residue left behind and your carpet stays cleaner longer. Our team is constantly learning about the latest techniques in the industry and applying them to the work we do to keep the homes of St. Louis and St. Charles County residents looking their best.

Additional Services Under One Roof

Allowing people into your home to do work always requires a level of trust, but even more so these days. Having one partner you can turn to for multiple cleaning and maintenance services is incredibly valuable. When researching companies to perform your carpet cleaning, find out if there are additional services they offer to residential clients.

How Often Should I Have My Carpets Professionally Cleaned?

As a homeowner you have made a significant investment in your carpeting, furnishings, and area rugs. These are the pieces that define your style and make your house a home. It is important to take care of your investment with regular professional cleanings. But how often does it make sense to have cleanings completed? The answer varies depending on your household and its inhabitants.

Here is what you need to consider when it comes to having your carpet, rugs and upholstery cleaned.

The Size of your Household

If you have a houseful of family who are regularly using the furniture and walking on the carpets and rugs, then you certainly want to get a professional cleaning once a year. The more wear and tear and use you get out of your house, the more important it is to stay on top of deep cleanings to prevent debris from building up, deep stains from setting in, or matting of the carpet fibers.

If you have a one- to two-person household, you can mostly get away with cleanings every 18 months.

If You Have Children

It is no secret that children, no matter their age, can be messy. Kids have a way of trailing in crumbs, tracking in dirt, spilling drinks or worse. This is not confined to toddlers. Kiddos, as much as we adore them, are hard on furnishings. If you have multiple children in your home, we suggest cleaning your carpets, rugs and furnishings every 6 months which will greatly extend their life expectancy and look.

Do You Have Pets?

What’s messier than children? Pets. While this might not be true 100 percent of the time and, even if you are diligent with cleaning daily as a pet owner, pets shed, track in grass and dirt from outside and even have an occasional accident. Pet owners should plan to professionally clean their furniture, carpets and rugs biannually.

And if you are lucky enough to have a bustling house of kids and pets then you should consider a quarterly cleaning schedule.

Highly Trafficked Areas

Certain areas of your home tend to receive more foot traffic than others. This holds true for certain pieces of furniture as well. The more traffic a room or item receives, the more important it is to give it the attention it needs. We recommend that you hit the heavy areas, such as your living room, master bedroom, family room, and basement recreation room more often. Those rooms where your family spends most of their time could be cleaned every 6 months with a 12-month cycle for the less frequented areas.

The Environment

Where you live matters. In Saint Louis we have weather extremes from hot and humid summers to cold and icy winters. If you live in a household where you wear shoes, then it is very important to stay on top of your annual cleanings to assure that you extend the life and look of your carpets, rugs and furniture.

Allergy and Asthma Sufferers?

If you or a member of your household suffers from chronic allergies of asthma it is important to vacuum with a HEPA filter vacuum each day and to have your carpets and rugs cleaned once a year at a minimum. This will greatly reduce the possibility of mold and dust in the fibers which can cause those with breathing problems to suffer more than needed.

No matter how large your household, or how many furry friends you have, it is important to get a professional cleaning for all your carpets, rugs and upholstered furniture annually if you want to make sure that your home is always looking its best. Contact Sams to schedule your next cleaning, or set up a recurring cleaning schedule.

How to Choose an Apartment Carpet Cleaning Company in the St. Louis Area

The front door is the first impression residents, and their guests will see when arriving at any apartment or home. However, it’s the carpets inside that leave a lasting impression. The carpets are what signal you are truly home, as both residents and guests take off their shoes and make themselves comfortable.

Maintaining clean carpets is especially important in apartment buildings and multi-family communities, where traffic tends to be higher than a typical single-family home. In apartments, clean carpets are critical for the long-term appeal and maintenance of each unit. Choosing the right company to clean your community’s carpets for move-in, move-out, and regular maintenance cleaning is critical. Here are 5 important things to consider when choosing a carpet cleaning company for your multi-family community in St. Louis and St. Charles County.

You Can’t Go Wrong with Experience

Carpet and tile cleaning and repairing carpet damage can be daunting. As an apartment community manager or property manager for multiple units, your time is limited. When you are preparing units between residents, you need a carpet cleaning and repair company that can act quickly and efficiently. Choose a company that will survey the area to be cleaned prior to starting, making note of any areas that have experienced high traffic or stains and may require extra attention. Not all carpet cleaning products and technology are created equal. An experienced carpet cleaning and repair company will utilize the latest cleaning tools and technology to ensure your carpets have that first day “welcome home” feeling.

Sams Carpet Cleaning & Repair, and our well-known yellow service vans, have been a welcome sight in the St. Louis area since 1985. We have experience providing commercial and private cleaning and repair services for many multi-unit commercial, residential, and privately owned properties.

Look for a Company that Offers Additional Services

When it’s time for residents to move out and new ones to move in, you have to do more than just clean the carpets to prepare each unit for its new resident. Preparing apartments for new residents is easy when you work with a company that handles many services you need with one call. It’s nice to have a single place to go for multiple services. A carpet cleaning company that offers additional services can properly prepare your apartment units in one stop and help preserve the desirability of your apartment community. Cleaning and repair services can return your apartment units to like-new condition, preserving your property and avoiding costly and unnecessary replacement.

When you hire Sams Carpet Cleaning & Repairs, you get more than a professional carpet cleaner. We offer a variety of additional and valuable services including carpet repairs, tile and grout cleaning, odor control, spot and stain removal, air duct cleaning, and water damage restoration. Sams is trusted among property managers throughout the St. Louis region for delivering a variety of professional services under one roof (or in one van, in our case).

Partner with a Carpet Cleaner That Makes Your Job Easier

Not every apartment or rental unit needs to be cleaned at the same time. You may find yourself needing one unit deep cleaned with air duct cleaning, and a few weeks later you have five units that need extensive carpet cleaning and repairs. Hire a carpet cleaning company that will serve your apartment community or rental properties no matter how big or small the job may be. Look for a partner that will assess your apartment community and propose a recurring cleaning schedule based on your needs and predicted apartment turn over. By utilizing a cleaning schedule, you can trust your apartments will always be clean and well-maintained and you can focus on your daily duties as property manager.

You can literally set it and forget it with Sams Carpet Cleaning & Repairs. We offer regular ongoing maintenance packages to help busy customers take one more thing off their to-do list.

Insurance Matters When Hiring a Carpet Cleaning Company

There are many choices when it comes to apartment carpet cleaning companies. As you explore your options, ensure you choose a company that is fully insured. More than likely, you or your property owner have insurance requirements for any contractor or business who does work for you. A company that is fully insured means you are protected from claims or accidents that may occur while work is being done on your property. This may seem like a standard feature of any company providing cleaning services, but it is not.

Sams is a fully insured carpet cleaning company. We clearly state it on our website, and we’re happy to provide a Certificate of Insurance to any customer who asks for it. We are protected so you are protected.

Look Local for Your Carpet Cleaning

Locally owned companies care about you and your apartment community’s reputation. They’re often known for the care they invest in the services they provide and the relationships they build with their customers. Sams Carpet Cleaning & Repairs is made up local owners and employees who call greater St. Louis home. We are proud to be part of the local community and committed to maintaining our reputation as the most trusted carpet cleaning company in the region.

Throughout St. Louis and surrounding counties, Sams has many long-term relationships with property managers and apartment owners who have come to trust us for reliable and consistent high-quality service. We understand the importance of clean, well-maintained carpets and interiors, and approach every job with the utmost attention to detail and care. You can hire Sams with confidence, allowing you to focus on your business and tenants. Contact us today for an estimate for your apartment community or multi-family residential properties.

Why is My House So Dusty?

Dust is not only a nuisance, but it is also one of the most common causes of allergies in the average person. From sneezing to cold-like symptoms, a dusty house can wreak havoc on your quality of life.

You vacuum and sweep the floors and wipe down surfaces. You have even dusted that high shelf that you never clean, yet it doesn’t appear to make a difference. You’ve done everything you can think of to cut down on dust in your house, but it keeps coming back. Let’s explore a few more strategies to significantly minimize the amount of dust that is in your home to help you live a healthy and happy life.

Walls and Ceilings Get Dusty Too!

Think about it… the circulating air that carries dust particles made up of pet hair, dead skin, and other debris in your house has nowhere else to go except settle on surfaces that get in the way. Most people notice dust on horizontal surfaces and wood or tile flooring, so they wipe down, sweep, and mop. But how many people do you know who actually wipe down their walls or ceilings?

Exactly…not many. It goes unnoticed and ends up collecting a lot of dust over time. Consider cleaning the walls and ceilings in your house a couple times a year, by using either a damp cloth or a vacuum with a hose attachment. Using a damp cloth may be a tedious task, but it will ensure the removal of dust without distributing more into the air. Using a vacuum with a hose is a quicker option but be aware that it can cause some dust disturbance.

Have You Checked Your Ceiling Fans?

Okay, but have you ever taken time to check just how much dust collects on the ceiling fans in your house? Just because the fan is moving fast doesn’t mean that dust does not collect. On the contrary, ceiling fans collect more dust than most areas in your home. And every time you turn it on, the fan is spreading that dust throughout the room.

So, get out your step ladder and a damp cloth and you will be amazed at how much dust your fan has been circulating for who knows how long!

Clean that Carpet!

You probably guessed this was coming, but carpet is like a sponge when it comes to dust collection. When dead skin, dust mites, and other particles settle deep into your carpet, vacuuming can only go so far. Vacuuming on a regular basis helps, but in order to really remove dust and dirt, the most effective thing to do is have the carpets in your house professionally cleaned.

Upholstery Traps Dust

We sit, sleep, and sometimes eat on our upholstered furniture, so it makes sense that it would collect considerable debris. You can alleviate the amount of dust in your furniture by using a vacuum with a wide hose attachment, but the most effective way is to hire a professional cleaning service like Sams to deep clean your furniture.

The Sams team is equipped to handle all upholstery care including steam cleaning and dry cleaning, depending on what’s appropriate for the material. Hiring a professional team to take care of furniture cleaning will minimize the risk of damage.

“Ahh…Dust is in the Air”

No, seriously.

Almost 60% of the dust in your home comes from the air outside. So, it’s important to clean the HVAC ducts of your home to cut down on the dust and dirt that you breathe daily. Alongside a range of other services, Sams offers air duct cleaning. Sams uses a powerful truck-mounted system that cleans out the walls of the ducts using a rotating brush. The debris is collected in a van outside, leaving your home clean and uncontaminated.

Sams is Here to Help

Although it can feel like a losing battle, with diligence and the right help, your house can be fresh and free of dust. We love creating satisfied customers and strive to deliver the best experience possible!

Contact Sams Carpet Service today to get your unfair advantage in the battle against dust.

What are Healthy Buildings?

According to the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Americans spend about 90% of their time indoors. The EPA also estimates that indoor pollutants cause hundreds of thousands of respiratory problems and thousands of cancer deaths each year. With that knowledge in mind, it’s important to understand what factors can influence indoor air quality and what steps building owners can take to reduce exposure and risk.

In this blog we want to explore the concept of healthy buildings, and detail some of the services Sams Carpet Service provides to help employers in the greater St. Louis area create a safer working environment for their team.

What Are Healthy Buildings?

Green building has become a buzz word in the construction industry over the past decade. Green buildings are structures that are designed, built, and operated in a manner that reduces or eliminates negative impacts on the natural environment and climate. Healthy buildings are really the next iteration of that concept. In addition to meeting the qualifications of a green building, healthy buildings take human well-being into account.

Buildings can be key contributors to the health and wellness of the people who occupy them. Specifically, healthy buildings are ones that account for:

  • Indoor air quality
  • Water quality
  • Safety and security
  • Lighting and view
  • Building design

Each of these factors plays a role in the health and safety of the people who occupy your building. But indoor air quality has become an especially big topic of conversation as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Let’s explore some of the services the Sams team provides that can improve the air quality in your building for employees or tenants.

How Sams Helps Make Buildings Healthier

Sams Carpet Service provides several services, specifically related to air quality, that help employers provide a healthier workplace for their teams.

Carpet Cleaning

If you’ve ever removed old carpeting from a building, you’ve likely been surprised at the amount of dust and dirt that was hiding in it. It may not have been visible until you began lifting the carpet from the floor, but it was there the whole time. Dust and dirt in carpet has the potential to go airborne with foot traffic and furniture moving. Regular vacuuming helps, but can only go so far. Having your carpets cleaned professionally is the best way to minimize the air pollutants hiding in the fibers and extend the life of the carpet so it doesn’t have to be replaced too soon.

Upholstery Furniture Cleaning

Your carpet isn’t the only place pollutants like to hide in plain sight. Upholstered furniture traps dust, dirt, grime, dead skin, mold spores and bacteria. Every time someone sits or lies on the furniture, these contaminants are released into the air. Having your upholstered furniture professionally cleaned is a great and effective way to improve air quality.

Air Duct and Vent Cleaning

When is the last time you took a good look inside the air ducts and vents of your building? You can’t imagine the amount of dirt and dust that can build up in your HVAC system. When your furnace or air conditioner is turned on, those pollutants are pushed into the air people breathe, leading to air quality issues and potential health problems. The Sams team uses a truck-mounted system with a rotating brush to remove debris from the walls of your ducts and collect it in the truck outside. The result is a clean HVAC system, and clean air to breathe.

Water Damage Services

If water damage isn’t properly taken care of it can lead to mold, mildew, and a wide variety of illnesses. Sams offers 24/7 emergency water damage restoration services. If your building suffers a plumbing mishap, storm damage, or any other catastrophe resulting in water damage, rely on the experienced team at Sams to respond quickly and get your facility back in working order. From initial inspection, to moisture removal, and mold prevention, we have the equipment and experience needed to make your building safe again. Our company is insured with an emphasis in Liability and Mold for your protection.

Is Your Facility a Healthy Building?

From having water tested to adding outdoor lighting, there are a number of steps you can take to create a healthier working and living environment. When it comes to improving air quality and cleanliness, the professionals at Sams are your partners in creating a healthier atmosphere. If it’s been a while since you’ve addressed carpets, upholstery, or your air ducts, reach out online or give us a call at 636-949-8229! Together we can determine a cleaning and maintenance schedule that will meet your needs. The Sams team will provide a detailed proposal to put you on the path to a healthy facility.

Sams Team Helps the Show Go on at Stifel Theatre in St. Louis

The Sams team recently had the opportunity to put our expertise to work in a legendary live performance venue, the Stifel Theatre in downtown St. Louis. The 3,100-seat main theatre was completed in 1934 as an opera house component of the larger Municipal Auditorium complex, including the 9,300-seat Convention Hall that later became known as Kiel Auditorium. Today, the Stifel Theatre opera house is all that remains of the original complex.

Shuttered in May 1991, the opera house sat vacant for two decades. A historic $78.7 million renovation restored it to its original splendor and added state-of-the-art upgrades in 2011. Having welcomed legendary names like Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles, Bob Dylan, and the Rolling stones through the years, today the opera house still attracts some of the biggest and brightest stars in music, theatre, and comedy.

Stifel Theatre view of the stage from the gallery

While closed during the COVID-19 pandemic, Stifel Theatre management reached out to The Sams team to perform a thorough steam cleaning using our truck-mounted units and apply SCOTCHGARD for future protection. In addition, while not being used, the theatre had become home to some moths we needed to remove and prevent from returning.

Everything that makes a building like the Stifel Theatre grand and spectacular- particularly its size and age, also present some challenges when cleaning. In addition to the main theatre, the Stifel theatre gallery view from the stagebuilding boasts numerous other spaces where they host weddings and corporate events. In a building this size, it’s important that everyone knows what areas they’re responsible for, so nothing gets missed. The theatre also has wool carpet, which needs to be treated differently than a standard synthetic carpet. Precautions must be taken with the heat and the soap we use to prevent the carpet from buckling or sustaining any damage.

Sams deployed a crew of 12, with six van-mounted carpet cleaning machines for this commercial carpet cleaning project. We worked hand-in-hand in partnership with Stifel Theatre’s management and maintenance team. With a project of this size, it takes a team effort to ensure every detail is attended to and the client’s expectations are met. In total, the crew spent five days on site. We treated spots and stains, thoroughly cleaned every inch of carpet in the theatre as well as some of the seats, and did a moth repellent treatment to remove eggs and prevent moths from returning.

Our team was able to come in and systematically approach the job, recognizing and treating areas that needed additional attention to remove stains as we went. We take an immense amount of pride in our work every day. But to be trusted on a job like this is extra special. The Stifel Theatre is a place where our team goes throughout the year to make memories with family and friends. It’s a building with a million intricate details, designed to inspire awe and wonder when you walk through the door. Helping them maintain its beauty was a true privilege and honor for the Sams team.

Can You Use Laundry Detergent to Clean Carpet?

As you might imagine, sometimes we get questions from customers debating between hiring a professional and taking the DIY route to cleaning carpets, tile and grout, and upholstered furniture. One of those questions is:

“Can’t I just use laundry soap to clean my carpet?”

The short answer is “No.” But that’s typically followed up with a “Why not?”

So today we’re going to detail the three biggest reasons why cleaning your carpet with laundry detergent is not a good idea.

Laundry Detergents aren’t Formulated for Carpet Cleaning

Would you use body wash to clean your dishes? Or dishwasher tablets in a washing machine?

Of course not!

Cleaning solutions are specifically formulated to clean and not damage the machines they’re used in and the material they’re treating. Laundry soap is designed to be used in washing machines to clean clothing. Using it to clean your carpets can damage owned or rented cleaning equipment and the carpet you’re trying to preserve.

It’s also important to note that not all laundry detergent contains the same ingredients. That means they create variable levels of foam and have a wide spectrum of rinsing requirements.

There’s a Difference Between ‘Smells Clean” and “Is Clean”

If you do decide to take the chance of using a laundry detergent, what you won’t be able to see right away is the residue that is left behind. But it won’t take long for that residue to begin attracting dirt. Cleaning your carpet with laundry detergent could ultimately result in a dirtier carpet, defeating the whole purpose and wasting valuable time and money.

It’s Not Worth the Risk

We get it! We love to save a buck when we can too. But in this case, it’s just not worth it. Your carpet is a major investment in your home. Professional cleaning is a cost-effective way to protect that investment for the long haul.

Call the Sams team instead. Chances are, professional carpet cleaning isn’t as expensive as you think. And it’s way less expensive than replacing carpet that was damaged by cutting corners with rented equipment and laundry detergent.
