“What’s that smell?” This is usually a visitor’s first thought when they’re greeted with an unpleasant odor at any home. Lingering smells that live in your home will soon affect the love you once had for it. Sadly, spraying air freshener won’t solve that stinky issue of yours. In fact, you’ll find that even after showering your place with the finest Febreze on the market, the smell has remained. But never fear – you don’t have to move out of your musty home to escape the stench! Help is closer than you think, right here in St. Charles, MO. Let the Sams team help. Here are a few tips that will help you banish bad odor and kick them to the curb!

Clean Your Air Ducts to Prevent Odors from Spreading

Central heating and air conditioning systems are everyone’s best friend during those hot summers and cold winters. But they can also be a prime place for odors to build up. As the air passes through your hallways, you begin questioning the unpleasant scents you’re smelling. Before you tackle the problem, identify what’s causing your air ducts to smell. If you’re a do-it-yourselfer, you can try cleaning your condenser coils and collection pan utilizing a strong cleaning solution, preferably one with bleach, to kill off mold. Using your vacuum, suck up loose dust or debris from the fins and coils. If the smell wasn’t coming from the air conditioning unit, then it can be coming from any part of the duct system, and you’ll need professional help for that.

Clean Your Home to Address Odors at the Source

You’re going to pick up those dirty socks, right? Honestly, this is something you should already be doing, but if you’re just letting your teenager’s cleats lay around it’s time to make a change. Clean your home thoroughly with cleaning solutions and antibacterial rags regularly. Be sure to pay attention to places you normally wouldn’t clean, such as cabinets, window sills, vents, and under the sink. Take it one step further and wipe down the walls, baseboards, doors and countertops.

Eliminate Pet Odors

You think Fluffy and Fido only leave odors behind when they have an accident? Think again. Just like us, dogs sweat when they’re hot, and the body parts that produce the greatest smells are bigger on dogs. Their paw pads spread on your carpets, floors, sofa and any other thing they can stand on. It may be best to keep Fluffy and Fido on a routine bathing and grooming schedule to reduce the aroma that’s sticking around. Speaking of sticking, let’s talk about those accidents on your carpet. A lot of accidents, specifically urine, can leave permanent stains – affecting the dyes on your floor. With a proper inspection, Sams will identify the best course of action to clean the stains and remove odor. Click here to read about the impact of urine deposits on your carpet.

Clean Your Carpet and Upholstered Furniture

“Knock, knock. Who’s there?” It’s the stench you’ve been stressing over. Pull out those odors in your carpet with a vacuum cleaner. A vacuum can help to keep your home smelling fresh by getting rid of dirt and other particles lodged in your carpet. To help with your vacuuming process, you can try an “at-home” remedy for odors and use baking soda. Try sprinkling it on your fabrics surface, letting it settle overnight, and vacuuming the carpet for the best results. Although this is an odor neutralizer, this will only get you so far. Instead of taking your chances, call a professional.

St. Louis Companies Prioritizing Disinfection for a Healthy Workplace

In their recent State of the St. Louis Workforce report, St. Louis Community College revealed that among the many operational changes that St. Louis area businesses have made in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, increased commercial cleaning and disinfection leads the way. In fact, 75% of companies surveyed report that enhanced workplace cleaning and disinfection are a top priority as they aim to provide a safe workplace and keep their staff healthy.

Affects of COVID-19 on St. Louis workplace behaviors

St. Louis Community College “State of the St. Louis Workforce” 2020 Report.

Every year, the winter months bring with them drier air, allowing viruses to transmit more easily, and increasing the likelihood of getting sick at work. This year, that danger extends beyond the typical cold and flu concerns. In this blog, we’ll explore the role you can play in ensuring a safer and healthier workplace for your team by making disinfection services from Sams a part of your operational plan.

Clean is No Longer Clean Enough

Traditional commercial cleaning services take care of vacuuming and dusting, as well as cleaning bathrooms, kitchens, and other common areas, and then call it a day. While this approach is a fantastic way to make your office look its best, it doesn’t necessarily get the job done when it comes to killing viruses and reducing the spread of infection.

That’s where the team at Sams comes in. Our commercial disinfection process uses high powered ULV disinfecting fog with an EPA-certified broad spectrum disinfectant and virucide to remove all contaminants from both the air and surfaces in your facility. The end result is a safer working environment and a workforce that knows you care about their wellbeing.

How the Disinfection Process Works

As a locally owned and operated IIRC certified firm, Sams has been disinfecting commercial spaces in the St. Louis area for more than 30 years. Our commercial disinfection process is really a finishing touch to your already established cleaning routine. Prior to our arrival for disinfection services, it’s important that all hard surfaces be wiped down with disinfectant, all carpets, drapes and upholstered materials be vacuumed, and hard floors be swept and mopped with a disinfecting cleaning solution. Remove everything from the counters. Any food, coffee pots, and utensils that are exposed openly should be stored in a safe closed area.

Once on site, our team will professionally deep clean and disinfect all carpeting and upholstery. We’ll also provide a thorough cleaning of the air ducts and vents in the building to minimize contaminants lingering in your HVAC system. We’ll then move on to cleaning tile and grout. Finally, we’ll use our high-powered foggers with EPA-registered disinfectant spray to completely decontaminate the area. After we’ve completed the disinfection process, there’s a recommended four hour vacancy period before people can return so that the disinfectant properly settles into all surfaces.

It’s important to note that disinfection is not a one-time fix. It can be incredibly effective at reducing workplace contaminants but needs to be a part of your regular cleaning process to have the greatest impact. Contact the Sams team to make commercial disinfection a part of your facility’s overall cleaning plan.

New Year, New You: Air Duct Cleaning for Your Health

It’s January, so naturally we’re all still on track with our New Year’s Resolutions (at least, for now, and we have good intentions)! Of course the most common New Year’s Resolution is to be healthy. Some examples you might hear, or you might have vowed you would stick to in 2018 are:

  • I’ll go to the gym 4 days a week
  • I’ll eat a salad a day, get my veggies in!
  • I’ll take the steps instead of the elevator and will park in the back of the lot
  • I’ll take care of my health: visit the doctor for regular checkups, take more vitamins, etc.

This year, focus on breathing clean air! You’d be surprised what you can see in your air ducts. When’s the last time you had yours cleaned?

They’re tucked away, it’s not obvious like a stain on your carpet or dog hair on the floor. You don’t often think about your air ducts and what’s going on with them. Your air conditioning and heat are working, so why would it even be a thought it your mind? That’s why we’re here to help you stay healthy and keep these things front and center. It’s important to clean your air ducts at least once a year, so what better time than now, start the year off fresh (and clean)!

You wouldn’t believe how dirty air ducts and dryer vents can get. Not only is air flow restricted when they haven’t been cleaned, but you’re breathing in that dirty, dusty air.

So how do we go about cleaning your air ducts and keeping you healthy? We use a powerful truck-mounted system that cleans out all the junk. A rotating brush scrubs the walls of the ducts, removing any build-up of dust and dust mites that could be making you sick. As it’s removed, the system collects the debris in our van outside, leaving your home clean and uncontaminated. We also offer a cleaning with an Anti-Microbial Disinfectant to inhibit the growth of molds, mildews and other odor causing bacteria, at no additional cost.

Help! My Tile and Grout Look Dinghy and Stained!

The floors in your house take a lot of abuse. Think about how often you and your family, friends and guests walk around, tracking dirt, germs and who knows what else! You might notice that your tile and grout are getting grungy, dirty and just not looking their best. But what can you do to bring the tile and grout back to their previous clean glory, or is it a lost cause? We are here to tell you that your tile and grout can be looking new and refreshed!

At Home Do-It-Yourself

With the right tools and sometimes a lot of elbow grease, you can get the tile and grout looking brighter and cleaner.

You can make a paste of baking soda and vinegar to “paint” on the grout lines, then spray the paste with a solution of equal amounts water and vinegar. Once the solution stops bubbling, scrub the grout with a nylon bristled scrub brush, or an old toothbrush (be sure to mark the cleaning toothbrush to ensure it doesn’t end up in someone’s mouth!) After scrubbing away all the buildup, mop the floor with plain water to remove the baking soda and vinegar residue.

Let’s just give them the one option. The one above sounds harder.

Not Enough Time or Too Much Work?

We get it, you have a lot to get done in a day. It’s not a quick and easy process to get down and deep clean the tile and grout. You might be thinking, “who has time for that?” Well, that’s where the Sams team comes in!

Here’s how our technicians will come in and return your tile and grout to their original beauty:

  1. Inspect the surface for any damage
  2. Carefully move furniture and prepare the work area
  3. We will sweep and vacuum the surface to remove loose dirt, dust or soil
  4. Apply a pre-conditioner to break down any oil and residue
  5. The floors are scrubbed with abrasive brushes to remove stains and traffic patterns (no one wants to see that, right?)
  6. Pressure cleaning is done with a rotary hot water extractor leaving the area clean and fresh
  7. Excess water residue is removed and the drying process begins
  8. Once dried, furniture is returned to their original positions!
  9. If you’d like, a sealant can be applied throughout to help prevent future staining of your grout and make cleaning easier, just let us know! If sealant is applied, the drying process will take a little longer.

And that’s it! Having your grout and tile professionally cleaned will make the entire room look fresh and new again. We’re not recommending that you eat off the ground, but, after our deep cleaning of your tile and grout, you most certainly could and we wouldn’t judge you! Contact us to learn more or to set up an appointment.
